Hull Trawler Losses of World War 1

1914 1915 1916 1917 1918 Notes

Local historian Alec GillThe following pages are wholly due to the hard work and research of local historian, Alec Gill. The data for these pages was collected from the pages of his book; 'Lost Trawlers of Hull' which was published by Hutton Press (of Cherry Burton) in 1989. This title should still available by ordering from W.H.Smith and other good bookshops.

This book aims to list all of the Hull trawlers of two tonnes and over, (including smacks, cobbles, crabbers, shrimpers) lost between the years of 1835 and 1987. Despite his many hundreds of hours of research, there were a few vessels which managed to avoid detection. However, this book is the only list of its kind and an invaluable source of information for anyone researching the City of Hull and its fishing heritage.

Included among Alec's many other titles available for order online are:

~ Good Old Hessle Road ~ Hull's Fishing Heritage ~
Folk Magic: Superstitions in Hull's Fishing Community
